Big Disc Sales

OVER £27,000 was raised for Jersey Side by Side at three Big Disc Sale events, organised by the Jersey Evening Post between 2007 and 2009.  The JEP has a strong link with Jersey Side by Side, which took its name from an event organised by the newspaper to express the Island’s solidarity with coastal communities hit by the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004. It was natural for JEP staff members to want to make their own fundraising contribution and so the Big Disc Sale was born.
Readers of the paper have responded generously to three appeals for the their unwanted CDs, DVDs and computer games. Parish halls, school and Jersey Post agreed to host collection points and, after many hours of sorting each year, sales were held in 2007, 2008 and 2009, first at Grainville School and then at Hautlieu.  The funds raised made a major contribution to meeting Jersey Side by Side’s £80,000 commitment to the British  Red Cross to rebuild a girls’ school at Mera Bakot in Kashmir which was destroyed by the 2005 Pakistan earthquake.

2009 Big Disc Sale - 24 Oct 2009
THE third Jersey Side by Side Big Disc Sale was held on 24 October 2009 and raised over £8,000 for the Mera Bakot earthquake relief project.
