Hayley Westenra

International vocalist Hayley Westenra visited the island in May 2008 to perform at the Jersey Opera House and at a fundraising dinner recital at Chateau Vermont coordinated by the Jersey Academy of Music.  The Jersey Opera House concert also brought various other musicians alongside to the stage, including Scottish tenor Nicky Spence, French harpist Celine Saout, and local pianist and cellist Chris George and Emmanuelle Dumas.  The Chateau Vermont dinner event combined performances from Hayley Westenra and Nicky Spence with songs from the Musical Originals Singers, a local youth choir, and a silver-service dinner catered by Jersey Pottery.  For both events Sir Nicholas Young, chairman of the British Red Cross, spoke about the importance of Jersey Side By Side's work overseas, and the impact of the island's support in the wake of the tsunami.
